I’m Here…Now What? Columbus, Ohio / Part Two

Part two of my guide to some of my favorite plant-based dishes found in Columbus, Ohio. There were so many great restaurants, I’m gonna have to go back to do parts three and four.

Pattycake Bakery
3009 North High Street  •   pattycakebakery.com
This is the spot. Pattycake Bakery makes pretty much every single veg-dessert (all dairy free) you could ever dream of, from whoopie pies and sticky buns to classic cupcakes and cookies. And they’re totally OG – they just celebrated their ninth anniversary this past year. They use 100% natural ingredients and are sensitive to your sensitivities (nice, right?) with their gluten- and sugar-free options.

I went for their raw, sugar-free cheesecake. And please know that when I say sugar free, I don’t mean that they added as(s)partame or anything like that. It’s fake-sugar-free too. An all-natural, light, creamy dream. My little sis rolled her eyes at the thought of a dairy-free cheesecake. Then she tasted it. And then we ended up heading back there a couple of days later, so she could buy one for herself. Get there.

The Angry Baker
891 Oak Street  •   theangrybakerote.com
I know you shouldn’t judge a restaurant by its logo. But sorry, sometimes I do. So after I went to The Angry Baker’s website, I sorta knew that I would love this place. It sits alone on a corner, and when you’re there, you feel like you know a little secret that no one else knows….until you go back the next day and it’s packed. I went two days in a row. It was really that good.

Logo heaven.

Logo heaven.

Angry Baker's veggie club

Angry Baker’s veggie club and squash soup

I ordered the veggie club (sans cheese) with the squash soup. My date got the veg biscuits and gravy. When I say “my date got,” that actually means I wanted both things, so I encouraged him to order it and proceeded to eat both plates of food. Both dishes were awesome. There’s an art to layering veggies together, I swear. Not all combinations work out so well. But they knew exactly how to arrange the sprouts, spinach, beets, and squash to make this sandwich the best ever. On the way out, I grabbed a blueberry chocolate brownie for my dessert-skeptic sister. And just like the logo, it was right on.
